On the early morning walk with Ranger, I discovered that I
had really made a mistake on the reservations.
When we walked into the section called “Trailer Park”, it was composed
of regular campsites with trees and grass and a bit of space between you and
your neighbor. Who would have thought to
reserve in the “trailer park”? I stopped
at the kiosk to see whether there were sites available to which we could move,
and after a bit of doing, we were re-assigned for the next two nights into the
nicer section.
Since we needed to unplug and pack up anyway, Dan suggested
that we drive around the park and explore.
We headed to Cascade Pond and walked along it for a bit (no birds to
speak of), then drove to Johnson Lake where we hiked around the lake, a
distance of about 3 km, and had a picnic lunch.
As the day went on, it seemed that all the interesting sights were
increasingly full of people, and by mid-afternoon we headed back to our new
campsite to set up and relax.
This was the coldest night so far, and I ended up getting up
at 4:30 am to plug in the electric heater.
The flip side was waking up to beautiful clear skies and a forecast of
upper 70’s. Perfect for the day ahead!
